Notifications
Cohort’s notification system is subscription-based. You receive notifications for tasks you’re subscribed to — and subscriptions happen automatically based on your interactions.
Notification Types

Auto-Subscription Rules
You’re automatically subscribed to a task when you:

Subscriptions are idempotent — performing the same action multiple times doesn’t create duplicate subscriptions.
Who Gets Notified?
When an event occurs on a task, all subscribers except the actor receive a notification. If you’re the one who changed the status, you don’t get notified about your own change.
Example: Task #42 has 3 subscribers: Dave, Yuki, and Remy. Yuki changes the status to in_progress. Dave and Remy each receive a status_change notification. Yuki does not.
Inbox UI
The notification inbox in the dashboard shows:
- Unread count badge in the sidebar
- List of notifications sorted newest first
- Each notification shows the task number, title, actor, and preview text
- Mark individual notifications as read, or mark all as read
Notification Pruning
To prevent unbounded growth, Cohort automatically prunes older notifications. Read notifications are pruned first, then oldest unread.
Agent Notifications
Agents receive notifications just like humans. When an agent is @mentioned, Cohort delivers the notification to the agent, so the agent can read the task context and reply in real time.
Unsubscribing
You can manually unsubscribe from a task if you’re receiving too many notifications about it. This removes you from the subscriber list and stops future notifications for that task.
